About

Tomoki Nakaya is Professor of Environmental Geography in the Department of Frontier Science for Advanced Environment, the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Tohoku University, Japan. He is concurrently adjunct professor of the Graduate School of Science for professional education of human geography and Geographic Information Science.

He holds a PhD in geography awarded by Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1997. He previously taught GIS and analytical human geography in the Department of Geography at Ritsumeikan University for twenty-one years and was Vice-Director of the Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage. He used to be visiting researchers in University of Leeds, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, National University of Ireland (Maynooth University), Sheffield University and University College London. His research interests cover geographical mathematical modelling, spatial statistics and geovisualisation with special interest in geographies of health and crime.

Tomoki Nakaya Lab (Environmental Geography Lab) at Tohoku University was launched on April, 2018. This lab’s mission is to create innovative GIScience approaches with informative analytical application studies covering the wide range of human geography.

中谷友樹:東北大学 大学院環境科学研究科 先端環境創成学専攻 都市環境・環境地理学講座 環境地理学分野 教授、地理学およびGIS関連の教育・研究指導のため理学研究科地学専攻/理学部地球科学系教授を兼担。博士(理学)。2018年4月に現職に着任。人文地理学に関連した地理情報科学の分析・視覚化方法論、およびそれらを活用した実証的研究を通して、地理学的な空間データ解析研究を推進しています。とくに健康地理学/空間疫学、犯罪の空間分析に関する領域での研究プロジェクトを重点的に進めています。
